Ron DeSantis signs anti-woke law to stop banks from freezing Floridians’ bank accounts based on their politics — but Treasury says the law puts ‘America’s national security at risk’-MSN
The new state law (HB 989), signed by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis in May, declares it would be “unsafe and unsound” for banks to consider non-financial factors like politics, religion or environmental, social and corporate-governance (ESG) when doing business.

DEI

Business Backs Away From DEI
Progressives pioneered the strategy of using activist campaigns to change corporate policies, and now they’re learning the other side can do the same. More companies are backing away from diversity, equity and inclusion policies amid new public scrutiny, and the distiller Brown-Forman illustrates the trend.

ESG

Texas Officials Sued Over Anti-ESG Law Targeting Wall Street-Bloomberg
As part of the law known as Senate Bill 13, Hegar publishes and maintains a list of companies and investment funds that he considers to engage in boycotts of the oil and gas industry. Currently Hegar has more than a dozen firms listed as offenders, most recently adding NatWest Group Plc earlier this month. He also includes several hundred individual funds.
The American Sustainable Business Council says its members have been harmed by the law. Flagship funds offered by investment companies Etho Capital LLC and Our Sphere Inc. were included on Hegar’s list of funds that pensions can’t invest in.

Election

I didn't watch the interview last night, but looking through the reactions on X it seems about what I thought. Her detractors thought it was awful and that Bash coddled her. Her supporters thought she did great and Bash was harder on her than she would be on Trump. Bottom line, she had a low bar and probably did what she had to do. As long as she keeps up these poll numbers she can keep quiet if she wants to.

Kamala Harris Soars Above CNN
Kamala Harris’s campaign handlers were no doubt giving each other high-fives on Thursday night watching their candidate’s interview on CNN. The Vice President got away for the most part with repeating her campaign’s platitudes about “the middle class” and “a new way forward” and was never seriously challenged on anything.
The campaign is betting the press won’t care. And they’re betting that Mr. Trump won’t do the homework and doesn’t have the discipline and focus to expose any of this in debate or consistently on the stump. So far it’s been a winning wager.

Interesting that CNN is saying the interview was live, when it wasn't

Speaking of keeping quiet, every time Trump talks abortion he digs himself a deeper hole. Abortion is going to be a huge issue, but he's already lost. The Democrats have convinced people he will sign a nationwide abortion ban and the pro life crowd is getting pissed. Donald Trump Gives Mixed Signals on Florida Abortion Referendum-WSJ

From Erick-Woods Erickson....

Many pro-life activists will conclude there is no reason for them to side with Trump when they could wait out two years of Kamala Harris with a GOP Senate, see a bigger wave of Republican reinforcements in 2026, and then take back the White House in 2028.
What they are getting from Trump is a betrayal.

If you haven't seen Nicole Shanahan's video on Trump Derangement Syndrome, it's a much watch.

Climate Change

U.N. Casts Little Light on Heat The international body’s latest climate-change alarms are more about demagoguery than data.-WSJ
Unfortunately, the media had already spread the WHO’s original, mistaken claim far and wide. Moreover, the edited version left out other important context: While seasonal rises in temperature that have been the norm for decades do kill people, it’s a far smaller toll than that taken by cold. In Europe, cold kills nearly four times as many people as heat—a danger that a warming climate helps ameliorate.

Market

Yesterday's Episode of The Watchlist

That was interesting. Awful start for NVDA but the market shrugged it off and I really though NVDA could go red to green. Then the bottom fell outfor NVDA and the rally fizzled. So far this morning they are trying to rally itagain, this time NVDA is green.

We do have PCE today, which could be market moving if it's a surprise. Jobs next week could also be important

Everything Else

This continues to be interesting. If you haven't already, I would suggest watching Mike Benz latest interview with Tucker Carlson on this. Possible that a big part of this arrest was trying to counter the Russians.

Telegram is more than a mere social-media app to Moscow. Russian soldiers and spies depend on it for battlefield communications, including the guidance of artillery, the coordination of movements and intelligence gathering.
